Tofu is an amazing natural product, which is so versatile and can taste incredible, but there are always a lot of questions!
So here we have a step by step guide on how to cook it and make it taste amazing!
To start with, you need to think of Tofu like a sponge which is waiting to absorb flavour!
Tofu comes full of liquid in order for it to maintain its texture, so the first thing you need to do when you are preparing is drain the liquid and press out all the liquid from the Tofu in order to then have a drained sponge to fill with your desired marinade/flavour.
2. Press the Tofu
In order to effectively press out the excess liquid, we recommend using kitchen roll and a chopping board.
Place 1 layer of kitchen roll on the board, with the Tofu on top and another layer on top of the Tofu and gently press down to remove the liquid. Repeat with new kitchen roll until the majority of the liquid has gone
Next up you need to slice the Tofu to your desired shape. Whether that is in cubes or in slices
The best part in preparing your desired flavour. The list is endless on how you can marinade Tofu but here are some of our favourites:
Leave the Tofu in the marinade for as long as possible (minimum 20 mins) if you have lots of time you could even leave it overnight
Top Tip for making Tofu extra crispy - sprinkle corn flour over the Tofu before you bake/fry it - this will give the Tofu a crispy edge
The last stage is either frying it in a frying pan with a splash of olive oil/ sesame oil or baking it in the oven.
Our Preferred method: Frying it in a frying pan, this way you can turn the Tofu with tongs to make sure it is evenly crisped on both sides
